Things to Do This Fall Near Lake Oconee

What is there to do near Lake Oconee this fall?

This October, Lake Oconee has live music at Rhythm & Brews (Oct 23), a Halloween farmers market in Eatonton (Oct 31), trick-or-treating in Greensboro (Oct 29), cozy local cafes and a pumpkin patch in Watkinsville.

Fall is my favorite season in Georgia's Lake Country. The boat traffic slows down, the mornings get crisp, and the calendar fills up with the kind of small-town events that make people fall in love with living here.

Whether you already call Lake Oconee home, you're up for the weekend, or you're daydreaming about a lake house, here are five easy ways to enjoy the season around Greensboro, Eatonton and Greene and Putnam counties.

1. Rhythm & Brews in Greensboro

  • When: Friday, October 23, 5–9:30 PM
  • Where: Sandy Creek Barn, Greensboro

If you only make it to one event this fall, make it this one. Rhythm & Brews is an evening of live music, craft brews and community fun, presented by Reynolds Lake Oconee and the Oconee Performing Arts Society.

It's the kind of night where you run into half the lake. Bring a jacket for after sunset. For the lineup and details, check the Reynolds Lake Oconee event page.

2. Lake Oconee Farmers Market in Eatonton

  • When: Saturday, October 31, 8 AM–noon
  • Where: Harmony Crossing, Eatonton

Halloween morning at the Lake Oconee Farmers Market is a slow, easy start to the weekend. Cafe du Papa will be there with fresh coffee, warm beignets and sweet treats while you browse local vendors.

Bring a tote and take your time. This is where you'll find what Putnam County growers and makers have to offer this time of year.

3. Cozy Coffee Stops Around the Lake

On a chilly morning, grab a latte and a window seat. These are three local spots worth the drive:

Spot

Town

Good for

Cafe 44 Lake Oconee

Greensboro

Breakfast, brunch, bakery items and coffee

Sweet Kneads Bakery & Cafe

Eatonton

Bakery and cafe

Compassion Cafe Coffee & Tea

Eatonton

Coffee and tea

Cafe 44 is an easy stop if you're on the Greensboro side of the lake. If you're headed into Eatonton for the farmers market, Sweet Kneads and Compassion Cafe are both close by.

4. Trick or Treat in Tiger Country

  • When: Thursday, October 29, 5:30–7 PM
  • Where: Greene County High School
  • Cost: Free

Trick or Treat in Tiger Country is a free community event that brings together local businesses, churches, clubs and organizations for a safe, festive Halloween. Costumes are encouraged, so dress up and come say hi.

It's a sweet example of what small-town life in Greene County feels like: everybody pitches in, and you leave knowing a few more neighbors.

5. Pumpkin Patch Day Trip to Washington Farms

  • Where: Washington Farms, 5671 Hog Mountain Rd., Watkinsville
  • Local tradition since: 1993

If you're up for a short drive from the lake, Washington Farms is a fall classic. There's plenty to fill an afternoon:

  • Pick-your-own pumpkins and flowers
  • Corn maze
  • Petting zoo
  • Mega Slide and jumping pillows
  • Pig races
  • Wagon rides around the farm

Hours, prices and tickets change by season, so check the farm's own website before you go.
